This ice maker has me bemused. On one hand, it does everything it claims to do producing great ice ala McDonald’s. It makes ice really quickly with a single button to press. It is self-cleaning, sort of, which is easy.On the other hand, it has a fatal flaw in my opinion: it makes wet ice. So, when I go to empty the basket in a bin in my freezer I have to jump through hoops so it doesn’t freeze solid. I don’t think putting the ice in a freezer is an odd use case because if left in the ice maker it will melt. The ice basket is in the same compartment as the water, so it’s not at freezing temperature, obviously. When I removed the basket to empty it, it will leak out a tablespoon or two of water. It is annoying to have to stir the ice until it freezes loose, and then repeating in a few minutes.Also, a kind of odd note: there is no branding of any kind on the ice maker. The description on Amazon names the brand as Xbeauty but there is no mention of that brand anywhere else. The only mention is in an insert folded into the user manual that maps the water hardness of the continental US. Down at the bottom, in small print, there is an email for after sale service: rwflame.com. On the website I found this ice maker (for $50 less). It’s just weird, but I think the manufacturer makes products for other companies to brand as they wish.So, I like the speed and quality of the ice produced, but am annoyed by how difficult it is to store the ice. Also, while cleaning is easy, it is also tedious. It takes about an hour to get through the cleaning cycle which requires human intervention, unless it is the monthly cleaning cycle which takes twelve hours.This all leaves me thinking this is a three and half star product, but since I can’t do that I will round up as it is functional and does what it says it does. I just wish they invested in a half-inch of insulated separation from the water chamber to keep the ice frozen.
